Ajay began his career as one of the heroes in director Prem's debut film Excuse Me. He was cast along side Ramya and Sunil Rao. He played the role of a musician who is in love with the girl, but typically is unable to tell her. The film was a success and Ajay's work was appreciated. The film did not offer Ajay much in terms of opportunities, and he later appeared in forgettable films such as Surya the Great, O Priyatama, Green Signal among others.[1]
Ajay's career got a new lease of life with the 2008 film Tajmahal opposite Pooja Gandhi. The film, directed by first timer R Chandru, was critically and commercially a success. Ajay almost didn't do the film. Excuse Me co star Sunil was initially cast for the part. When he backed out due to personal reasons, Ajay stepped in. Tajmahal was one of the big hits of 2008 and has revived Ajay's career.[2]
